How do you know when you're ready to start an online community?
As someone who's helped build out a six-figure online community, these are the four things worth getting clear on:
- Do you have an engaged audience or network?
- Do you know what people appreciate about you?
- Do you have anything of value or urgency to offer?
- Do you know if people even want it?
Then ask yourself: HOW DO YOU KNOW?
Communities are education hubs for people to get their hands dirty with other like-minded individuals around specific hobbies, behaviors, and lifestyles. Do you have something that caters to that type of culture?
If not, it might be worth asking 5-10 trust-worthy colleagues (or clients) these questions:
- What values would you associate with me?
- What's the most interest conversation we've ever had?
- If I started a community around something like that, would you be interested? (And if yes, how much would you pay for it?)
If you want to see what this looks like in action, consider watching this recording of a presentation I gave at one of H7's networking huddles earlier this month.
